Maserati’s Electrification Gets Major Boost As New Models Are On The Way

Published

on

Maserati has refreshed a significant part of its model range in a relatively short time. The Ghibli and Quattroporte may have been around for a while and the SUV Levante can no longer be described as very young, but a large part of Masearti’s line-up is brand new. In 2020, it launched the super sports car MC20, the new Maserati GranTurismo, like the MC20 Cielo, an open variant of the MC20, called the MC20, was launched in 2022, and in the same year we were introduced to the small SUV brother of the Levante: the Grecale. That Maserati is keeping up with the times is evident from the fact that it even supplies fully electric Folgore versions of the Grecale and GranTurismo. Will it remain at two EVs? Certainly not.

We already knew that there would be another open GranTurismo, and Maserati also has an electric Folgore flavor in the pipeline for the yet-to-be-revealed GranCabrio. The GranCabrio Folgore, like the versions with combustion engines, will be launched on the market this year. But there’s more. It has been quiet for a while around the already announced electric MC20, but it now also has an introduction year behind its name: 2025. So next year.

Electric Quattroporte and Levante successor

In 2026, Maserati seems to be taking a breather, but it will only be short-lived. For 2027, the Italians promise the arrival of what they describe as ‘a brand new large E-SUV BEV’. A large SUV. Then there can only be one car: the electric successor to the Levante. The model will be 11 years old in 2027, so a successor will be more than expected in that year. Maserati also has an electric newcomer planned for 2028. That will be an electric sedan with a very well-known name. Indeed: Quattroporte. The Ghibli seems to have no future at Maserati – at least for the time being.

Goodbye Ghibli

From 2030, it will only sell cars with fully electric powertrains. From 2025, every model it sells must have an EV version. There are no longer any electric Folgore versions of the current generation of Ghibli and Quattroporte in the offing, which means that these models will at least be retired in their current form next year at the latest.
