Mercedes-Benz sold 2.16 million vehicles to customers worldwide in 2020, a decline of 7.5 percent year-on-year.

774,382 cars were sold in China, which equates to around one in three cars sold by Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz.

SUVs accounted for 65% of Mercedes total sales, with the new GLA and GLB representing more than a quarter.

Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz sold around 2.16 million vehicles to customers worldwide in 2020, a decline of 7.5 percent year-on-year.

The automaker noted that it “benefited from the ongoing recovery in many markets in the second half of the year” despite the pandemic that affected the global car sales in the early parts of 2020.

“Despite the major challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Mercedes-Benz delivered more than two million cars for the fifth consecutive year,”

Sales declined in North America and Europe by 14.7 percent and 16.4 percent year-on-year respectively.

In the Asia-Pacific region, the sales of Mercedes-Benz cars increased by 4.7 percent to 1.02 million passenger cars last year.





Out of Mercedes-Benz total sales in 2020, 774,382 were sold in China, which equates to around one in three cars sold by the German carmaker.

According to Mercedes-Benz, more than 160,000 plug-in hybrids and fully electric cars were sold worldwide, an increase of 228.8 percent.

GLA and GLB represented more than a quarter of Mercedes-Benz total sales

Ola Kaellenius, chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler and Mercedes-Benz, said in a statement that :

“We more than tripled sales of our plug-in hybrids and all-electric cars. Demand for these vehicles increased sharply, especially towards the end of the year,”

SUVs accounted for 65% of Mercedes-Benz sales in 2020, with the new GLA and GLB representing more than a quarter of the total sales.
