One question Nigerians always ask is.. What is the best and easiest business to invest in? I hear you chanting Uber! Uber!! already.

Yea, It is absolutely easy to buy a car, inspect and sign it up with Uber. However, the most important factor is usually overlooked. The human factor – The driver.. These guys can make you go really crazy.

They have lots of accidents, they under deliver, they pick passengers offline and pocket the money etc.

These 8 tips will enable you handle these guys to a reasonable extent:

1. Car seat occupancy sensor:

This sensor will notify the owner of the car whenever a passenger sits in it.. the front passenger’s seat as well as the rear seats. You can call up the passenger pick up log at the end of the day or week and the driver will think you are a magician. The drivers can’t say they picked only 10 passengers when your log is saying 25.. Abi nah your girlfriend you carry?  Next time, she has to do standing inside Uber.

2. Odometer reading:

This scope dates back to when we used to steal Daddy’s car. The driver can’t say he wasn’t feeling fine over the weekend and the mileage is saying he drove like from Lagos to Kafanchan that weekend.

3. Hire purchase:

The importance of hire purchase cannot be overestimated. It gives the driver a sense of ownership and responsibility knowing that the car will become his/hers someday. Fueling, service and general maintenance cost will also be on the driver.

4. Use a professional fleet management company:

One major challenge is, we get so emotionally attached to our business. Sometimes, you have to give up to move up. These companies don’t only have the expertise, they also have a pool of drivers who are frequently trained. Fueling, service and general maintenance cost will be borne by the company.. and you get your alert monthly.. About N140k. The good thing is the car still remains yours after the contract unlike the hire purchase.

5. Cameras:

Imagine how cool it is when you can call your drivers as soon as they go out of line  but it’s not that you will sit all day and be watching your Uber drivers like Zee World. If you have to do this, make sure you have obvious stickers notifying the passengers about the camera.

6. Car tracker:

This will help you know where your car is per time and ensure the driver does not overspeed. The tracker will also enable you turn off the car remotely when necessary.

7. Drive your car yourself:

Have you ever heard of Uber drivers who make N350k to N400k per month? Yes you can.. if you drive your car yourself.

8. Comprehensive insurance:

If you do a combination of all I have stated above and you don’t have a comprehensive insurance, OYO is your case.

Let’s hear some more from you in the comment section.
