Tesla Roadster Faces Yet Another Delay With Release Date Now Unknown

The Tesla Roadster has faced yet another delay. When it was originally revealed as a concept in 2017, CEO Elon Musk promised that the Roadster would be available by 2020. That goal was not met, and Musk later said that deliveries would begin in 2024. Now, in October 2024, the electric supercar still hasn’t made it to the roads.
During a recent shareholder meeting, Musk acknowledged the delay, saying, “I want to thank our long-term Tesla Roadster deposit holders. The reason for the delay is that the Roadster isn’t just the finishing touch; it’s a standout feature on top of everything else.”
Musk also explained that while the development of the next-generation Roadster is exciting, Tesla is prioritizing projects that have a more immediate impact on the world. Although an official production date has not been confirmed, Musk previously mentioned that production could begin in 2025, although that timeframe now seems uncertain.
As for the final design and performance, Tesla is keeping details under wraps. While the Roadster may look like a concept from 2017, Musk hinted that the design goals have evolved. In addition, the car could reach 60 miles per hour (96 km/h) in less than one second with the optional SpaceX package.
By the way, Tesla’s revenue in the third quarter amounted to 25.18 billion dollars, 8 percent more compared to 23.35 billion dollars a year ago. Net income rose to about $2.17 billion, or 62 cents per share.
Tesla also points out that on October 22, it reached the figure of 7 million manufactured vehicles and that the Cybertruck became the third best-selling all-electric vehicle in the US (behind the Model 3 and Model Y). The company sold more than 16,000 Cybertrucks in the US in the third quarter, according to Kelley Blue Book estimates.
