How To Reset Maintenance Required Light In 2005-2012 Toyota Avalon After Oil Change

Today is for Avalon!

This article shows you the steps for resetting the maintenance required light on the dashboard of Toyota Avalon. The procedure is same for third generation Toyota Avalon (2005 – 2012).

You are to carry out this procedure just immediately after each oil change in your car. It is important to note that this ‘maint reqd’ light simply means a service interval has been met and the engine oil in your car is due for change. It comes on 5,000 miles after the last time it was reset.

This light comes on strictly as a function of miles covered by your car, and it is never an indication that something is wrong with your car. So the next time you see it pop up on your dashboard, it means you have to get new oil for your engine. Nothing serious other than that.

Below are the steps you should follow to reset the maintenance required light in your 2005 – 2012 Toyota Avalon.

  • Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. For Avalon with push-to-start button, this is done by pressing the power button twice in quick succession without touching the brake pedal.
  • Press the TRIP button, to display TRIP A.
  • Turn Off the ignition.
  • Press and hold the TRIP button, then turn the ignition On, keep holding the TRIP button until the 000000 is displayed on the screen and the MAINT REQD Message is gone.
  • Turn off the ignition, oil reset is complete.
