Yangwang U9 Xtreme, Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+: Top 10 Fastest Cars In The World Ranked By Top Speed

Last year, Yangwang shocked the automotive world when its U9 Xtreme electric hypercar reached an incredible 496.22 km/h (308.34 mph) in Germany, setting a new production-car speed record. The blistering run made the Chinese-built hypercar the fastest production car in the world.
The U9 Xtreme’s astonishing achievement marked a major moment for electric vehicles in the decades-long battle for outright top-speed supremacy, a domain previously dominated by some of the most powerful petrol-powered hypercars ever built.

The record has intensified the fierce battle among automakers for the title of the world’s fastest production car, with Bugatti, Koenigsegg, SSC and Rimac pushing their machines to speeds that once seemed impossible for road-going cars.
Following Yangwang U9 Xtreme is the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, which reached 490.48 km/h (304.77 mph) in 2019. The near-production version of the hypercar achieved the speed at Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessien test track in Germany, becoming the first car to break the 300 mph barrier.

The SSC Tuatara is another major contender, having recorded a top speed of around 474.8 km/h (295 mph) in January 2021. The American hypercar is powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 engine and was developed specifically to challenge the world’s fastest production cars.
Bugatti also features strongly with the W16 Mistral (453.91 km/h/282.05 mph), the world’s fastest open-top production car, while the Koenigsegg Agera RS (447.19 km/h/277.87 mph) remains one of the most impressive speed machines ever produced.

Further down the ranking are the Bugatti Tourbillon (445 km/h/277 mph), Hennessey Venom F5 (437 km/h/271.6 mph), Rimac Nevera R (431.5 km/h/268.2 mph) and Bugatti Veyron Super Sport (431.07 km/h/267.86 mph), all capable of speeds exceeding 400 km/h. Their figures demonstrate just how extreme modern hypercar performance has become.
Rounding out the top 10 is the Rimac Nevera (412 km/h/258 mph). The ranking highlights a major shift in the hypercar world, with electric power no longer simply challenging petrol engines for speed but now sitting at the very top of the table.
