Volkswagen Golf To Lose Its Mild-Hybrid Engines
The Volkswagen Golf is losing its mild-hybrid engines. The 1.5 eTSI with 116 hp and the 150 hp variant of the same 1.5 eTSI have been discontinued. Those mild-hybrid engines were always paired with an automatic transmission.
Anyone wanting a new Volkswagen Golf now can, just like before, opt for the variant with a 116 hp 1.5 TSI without electric assistance and with a manual transmission. Plug-in charging is possible with the 204 or 272 hp plug-in hybrid eHybrid versions. For those with a larger budget who want more sportiness, the 265 hp Golf GTI and the 333 hp Golf R are available.
Notably, the Volkswagen Golf Variant is currently available with the mild-hybrid 1.5 eTSI. However, the Golf Variant is not available as a plug-in hybrid eHybrid, which may explain why Volkswagen is retaining the mild-hybrid 1.5 eTSI for the Golf Variant.
