Atiku Blasts ‘Wastage’ Over First Lady’s Reported ₦1bn Gift Of 7 Toyota Prados To APC Youth Leaders

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has criticised the reported distribution of seven 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (250 Series) SUVs to selected All Progressives Congress (APC) youth leaders, demanding that President Bola Tinubu explain the source of funding for the vehicles.
Atiku, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, described the reported gifts as an example of excessive political spending at a time when millions of Nigerians are struggling with hunger, rising transportation costs and other economic challenges.

In a statement issued by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Atiku questioned the financing of the 2026-model SUVs, reportedly valued at more than ₦150 million each, following claims that First Lady Oluremi Tinubu donated the vehicles.
“The APC National Youth Leader says these vehicles were donated by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu. Nigerians deserve to know where the money came from to buy and distribute so many 2026 model SUVs, each worth more than ₦150 million, for political mobilisation,” Atiku said.

He demanded clarification on whether the vehicles were purchased with the First Lady’s personal funds, private donations or public resources, insisting that Nigerians deserved transparency regarding the total cost and any government involvement.
Unlike the traditional buses typically deployed as campaign vehicles in Nigeria, the youth leader’s choice of high-end Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (250 Series) SUVs is likely to command attention in busy urban areas and generate organic traction on social media.

The Toyota Prado combines rugged off-road capability with premium comfort. The Nigerian-market 2.4-litre turbocharged petrol version produces 271 hp and 430 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Inside, the seven-seat SUV offers a 12.3-inch touchscreen and leather upholstery, while selected trims add a panoramic sunroof and ventilated seats. Equipment varies by trim, and the exact specifications of the Prados reportedly presented to APC youth leaders have not been confirmed.
