Porsche Says It Has No Plans To Manufacture Cars In The US
Porsche has no plans to produce cars in the United States, despite the 15 percent import tariffs the country imposes on cars from the European Union. Any potential benefits do not outweigh the additional investments required, said Chief Financial Officer Jochen Breckner in a commentary on the quarterly results.
In doing so, Porsche is taking a different path than sister brand Audi, which is also part of the Volkswagen Group. This luxury brand plans to invest heavily in a factory in the American state of Georgia.
Audi CEO Gernot Döllner drew outrage over the manner in which this was announced. US President Donald Trump announced it in Döllner’s presence at a Republican campaign rally. Chairwoman Daniela Cavallo of the Volkswagen Works Council called this “active campaigning” for someone who, according to her, makes sexist, homophobic, and racist statements.
