Rimac Hints At A New Collaboration With BMW
Rimac Group plans to expand its operations with new projects, including two upcoming collaborations with BMW, as confirmed by CEO Mate Rimac.
The German manufacturer currently relies on Rimac to supply batteries for its i7 electric luxury model, and the cooperation between Bavaria and Zagreb seems to be going well enough for the partnership to be extended to other vehicle models. According to the executive director, Rimac has an exceptional partnership with BMW, and the cooperation on the production of batteries has proven to be very successful. However, BMW did not leave anything to chance. Early in the development of the refreshed i7 model, the German company hired several different battery manufacturers to create samples for evaluation; therefore, Rimac’s position in the project was uncertain until the final decision was made.
Rimac secured the BMW i7 battery contract by showing BMW representatives the construction of their new Croatian production facility, proving they had the capacity to meet BMW’s operational needs.
Mate Rimac also pointed out that the technology branch of his company could not count on getting the contract for the i7 model just like that, just by building a production line.
– In order to get that job, we had to be better than everyone else on the market, both technically and commercially. This is especially true for batteries, where it is not at all easy to compete with China.”
Rimac is planning new projects with BMW (on two new vehicles), but for now the details are being mentioned. It is assumed that one of those projects could be a redesigned version of the BMW i5 model.
Rimac Group’s growth in the automotive sector is confirmed by key partnerships with BMW, Hyundai, and Porsche. Following successful battery projects, BMW plans to expand its collaboration with Rimac on two future vehicle models, highlighting the company’s expertise in advanced electric powertrain technology.
