Acura Targets 200,000 Annual Sales By 2030

Published

on

Acura’s U.S. sales peaked at 209,610 in 2005, driven by the TL and TSX. By 2025, sales fell to 133,433, trailing behind competitors like Cadillac (173,515) and Audi (164,942).

The automaker aims to hit 200,000 annual sales by 2030 by expanding its lineup from four to six models. Plans include a new three-row flagship (internal code “XL”) to compete with the Lexus TX, and a rugged crossover based on the Honda Passport, both revealed to dealers recently. The XL, offering eight-passenger seating, is expected to enter production in Q3 2029.

The new Passport-based Acura will feature unique styling, an upright front end, and rugged tires to tap into off-road demand, similar to the popular Passport TrailSport. While targeting the Lexus GX segment, it will remain on a unibody platform. Acura’s updated lineup will include the next-gen RDX and MDX, with a strategic shift toward hybrid and gas powertrains over EVs, following the discontinuation of the ZDX.

Cadillac has abandoned its all-electric 2030 goal, confirming a next-gen gas-powered CT5 while keeping the Optiq and Lyriq. Meanwhile, Audi faces U.S. market challenges and tariffs, prompting it to explore local production with Volkswagen. Given current trends, BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes-Benz remain well-positioned to stay ahead of Acura’s 200,000-unit annual sales target.
