Chevrolet Says It Doesn’t Want The Next-Generation Corvette To Have Supercar Pricing
Six years after the C8’s mid-engine shift, the Corvette continues to evolve. Recent interviews with chief engineer Tony Roma suggest the upcoming C9 will prioritize performance while maintaining its signature relatively affordable price point.
Corvette chief engineer Tony Roma confirmed the upcoming C9 will prioritize performance while remaining relatively affordable, rather than competing with Ferrari or Lamborghini pricing. Meanwhile, a rare 1964 Corvette Split-Window Coupe conversion with 826 miles is currently for sale.
This marks a $13,800 increase since the 2020 C8 debut. While diverse variants like the $227,700 ZR1X now reach Porsche pricing, Chevrolet intends to keep the upcoming C9 relatively affordable. Future EV development may raise costs, but the focus remains on improving performance with existing dual-clutch technology rather than integrating a complex manual gearbox, which poses significant production and emissions-validation challenges.
The final pricing for the next-generation Corvette C9 remains uncertain, and official details are unlikely to emerge in the near term, particularly as the current model underwent a significant update for the 2027 model year. This recent refresh introduced the Grand Sport and Grand Sport X variants—the latter replacing the E-Ray—and incorporated an engine from General Motors’ sixth-generation small-block V8 family. Additionally, the entire lineup experienced a $300 price increase earlier this month.
Should Chevrolet maintain a relatively accessible price point for the C9, the vehicle will likely remain a competitive alternative to performance-oriented rivals in a similar market segment, such as the Ford Mustang Dark Horse and the BMW M2.
