A Recall Was Issued For Range Rovers That Drowned Their Own Rearview Cameras
Range Rovers (2022–2026) are under recall for a faulty tailgate drainage system that causes water ingress, damaging the rearview camera and potentially leading to display failure.
Land Rover has recalled 2022–2026 Range Rover models due to a tailgate drainage defect that causes water ingress, damaging the rearview camera. Affected vehicles, produced at the Solihull plant between July 8, 2021, and June 4, 2026, face potential display failure or image distortion, compromising driver visibility. Dealers will drill additional drain holes and replace damaged cameras free of charge.
The NHTSA has recalled 2022–2026 Range Rover models due to a faulty tailgate drainage system. Water pooling around the rearview camera can cause image distortion or display failure, obscuring pedestrians or obstacles and increasing crash risks.
The PSCC (Product Safety and Compliance Committee) launched an investigation after identifying anomalous rearview camera failure rates in Range Rover vehicles in the U.S. and Canada. Further analysis confirmed on October 6, 2026, that these malfunctions were caused by water ingress.
On October 8, 2026, the PSCC mandated a recall in the U.S. and Canada due to high failure rates. Between August 2022 and September 2026, Jaguar-Land Rover received 2,295 related reports. Vehicles built after June 4, 2026, feature improved tailgate seals.
To address the identified defect, dealers are instructed to modify the tailgate trim by drilling additional drainage holes to prevent future water ingress. Before performing this modification, technicians will assess the condition of the rearview camera; any units found to be malfunctioning will be replaced at no cost to the vehicle owner.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this permanent repair will be provided free of charge. Dealerships will receive official notification by October 29, 2026, and vehicle owners can expect to receive notification letters regarding this recall on or before December 11, 2026.
