Chevrolet’s Most Affordable SUV Has Been Updated For The 2027 Model Year
Chevrolet has introduced an updated version of its most affordable American crossover – the Trax. The current second-generation Trax has been on sale in the US since 2023 as a clone of the now ex-China Chevrolet Seeker.
Although sales fell slightly in the first three quarters of this year, the Trax reached a respectable 167,910 customers, but a refresh was necessary in the form of a redesigned exterior and interior.
After the update, the Trax retained the double-decker headlights, but the daytime running light sections that sit on top were replaced, while narrow horizontal strips replaced the vertical blocks on the pre-reform model. The tailgate has also been redesigned, the taillights replaced and the bumpers retouched. The grille is also new, with a unique pattern for each trim level. Trax is 4.53 meters long, with a wheelbase of 2.7 meters.
By the way, the Chevrolet Trax line has been reduced after the facelift, with three equipment levels instead of five, as the crossover had before the reform. The updated Trax will be offered in an LT trim package, a sportier RS variant and an off-road Activ version. All trim levels now lack the front “whiskers” (previously only the top-of-the-line Trax Activ didn’t have them). Finally, the wheel design has been revised and the color palette has been expanded.
The interior of the Trax features a redesigned dashboard and a new air conditioning control unit. While the crossover before the reform had standard analog instruments and a modest 8-inch multimedia system, the restyled version received an 11-inch virtual instrument panel and a larger 11.3-inch screen of the infotainment system. The multimedia system includes Google Assistant, powered by artificial intelligence.
The technical specifications of the 2027 Chevrolet Trax have not yet been revealed, and the company only stated that the crossover will continue to be offered exclusively with front-wheel drive. The technical package is probably unchanged: the pre-reform crossover in the US is available with a 1.3-liter 3-cylinder turbopetrol (139 HP) in combination with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Chevrolet Trax has also become safer: standard equipment includes automatic reverse braking (including cross-traffic), automatic intersection braking and a side cyclist warning system. Electric trunk opening is available for the first time. Prices for the updated Chevrolet Trax have not yet been announced, as the start of sales is planned for next spring: the pre-reform version costs from $21,700 (€19,375).
