Audi To Invest $4 Billion In Georgia For First U.S. Plant With 200,000-SUV Annual Capacity

Volkswagen Group’s premium brand Audi has announced plans to invest $4 billion in Georgia to establish its first U.S. production site, as part of the German luxury automaker’s efforts to increase its manufacturing presence in North America.
The proposed facility at the Middle Georgia Megasite will focus on producing premium sport utility vehicles (SUVs) for the U.S. market. According to Audi, the project is expected to create around 4,500 jobs, while up to 200,000 vehicles will be produced annually once operations are fully established.

“We have much greater ambitions for Audi in America. The United States is one of the world’s most important premium markets, and we have not yet realized our full potential. We are determined to change that — with premium products, a stronger brand and a competitive local production base,” said Gernot Döllner, Chairman of AUDI AG.

Construction of the plant is scheduled to begin in 2027, while full vehicle production is expected to commence in the early 2030s, according to Audi’s announcement. The planned investment aims to establish North America as a third major pillar of Audi’s global production network, alongside Europe and China.
“Building a new plant from the ground up allows us to rethink manufacturing from day one. We can design highly efficient and flexible production processes, integrate advanced technologies and develop a strong local supplier network,” said Gerd Walker, who is responsible for Production and Logistics at Audi AG.

Audi has not yet announced which premium SUV it intends to build at the proposed Georgia factory, but its lineup includes the Q8 and the newly unveiled 2027 Q9, the brand’s flagship SUV, which is expected to be its largest SUV yet and a rival to the Mercedes-Benz GLS.
The proposed investment reflects the importance of the United States, which Audi described as the “world’s second-largest premium market”. With the move, Audi is considering how local manufacturing can support its market strategy, supply chains and long-term competitiveness.
