2024 BMW 5 Series Lets Drivers Change Lanes By Just Looking At The Side Mirror

2024 BMW 5 Series has ‘Active Lane Change Assistant’ that lets drivers change lanes by just looking at the side mirror. 

When the 2024 BMW 5 Series sedan suggests a lane change, the driver can confirm it by looking at the side mirror.

BMW 5 Series also comes with Highway Assistant, which relieves the driver of steering tasks while driving speeds of up to 85 mph.

The all-new BMW 5 Series sedan was launched last week not only with the first-ever electric i5 but also with a ‘world first’ optional feature called ‘Active Lane Change Assistant‘ that lets you change lanes just by looking at your side-view mirror.

According to BMW, the optional ‘Active Lane Change Assistant’ takes over the necessary steering movements automatically when the vehicle suggests a lane change and and the driver looks in the side mirror to confirm the lane change.

“This comfort feature now achieves a new level of interaction between the driver and the vehicle, BMW said in a statement.

“The vehicle suggests a lane change and this can be carried out for the first time by looking in the exterior mirror to confirm the lane change.

“The Active Lane Change Assistant takes over the necessary steering movements automatically, the traffic situation permitting.

In addition to the ‘Active Lane Change Assistant’, the BMW 5 Series also comes with Highway Assistant, which relieves the driver of steering tasks on highways while driving speeds of up to 130 km/h (85 mph).

The new BMW 5 Series is also equipped with Parking Assistant, including Reversing Assist as well as optional Parking Assistant Professional. Automated parking and manoeuvring of up to 200 metres can be controlled in the vehicle or by smartphone outside the vehicle.
