Lexus Updates The ES For 2027, And It Will Be Made In Japan

The eighth-generation Lexus ES debuted in 2026 as a redesigned sedan, moving beyond traditional powertrains to offer an electrified lineup featuring the ES 350h hybrid alongside the all-electric ES 350e and ES 500e.

For the 2027 model year, the Lexus ES remains largely unchanged, with only a modest price adjustment. Depending on the trim level, pricing has increased by between $105 and $110, an amount that includes all delivery, processing, and handling fees.

What 2027 Has To Offer

The 2027 Lexus ES retains the 244-hp, 2.5-liter sixth-gen hybrid powertrain of its predecessor. Front-wheel drive is standard, offering an EPA-estimated 46 mpg combined, while the available all-wheel-drive configuration provides 44 mpg.

EV models retain their 74.7-kWh battery. The ES 350e offers up to 307 miles of range, while the dual-motor ES 500e produces 338 hp with a 276-mile range. Standard features across the lineup include a 14-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Lexus Safety System+ 4.0. The ES 350h Premium+ adds a 17-speaker, 1,800-watt Mark Levinson audio system.

Japan Now Makes Them

For the 2027 model year, Lexus has moved production of all ES models—the 350h, 350e, and 500e—from Kentucky to the Toyota Motor Kyushu facility in Japan. This transition follows a challenging period for the sedan, which saw U.S. sales drop 89.3% in June 2026. Despite a modest price increase, the 2027 ES retains its established hybrid and electric powertrains, aiming to regain market ground by blending efficiency, range, and luxury in an SUV-dominated landscape.
