Today, Up To 49% Of British Drivers Would Purchase A Brand-New Chinese Vehicle
They no longer have prejudices: the fact that the “love” of the British for Chinese cars has been on a steep upward trajectory in recent years is shown not only by impressive sales figures but also by a new survey by the online platform Carwow.
Almost half, or 49 percent of respondents, said that they would consider a car from China for their next car, which is a significant increase compared to 35 percent of those who said the same at the beginning of this year. The same survey was conducted in early 2023, when 24 percent of drivers said they would consider a “Chinese” car.
A significant increase in the recognition of Chinese brands is also noticeable; for example, out of 1,270 surveyed Carwow users, 71 percent of them are familiar with the BYD brand, 69 percent of them have heard of Jaecoo, 57 percent of them know of Omuda, 50 percent of them know of Chery and 41 percent of them know of Geely. It is interesting that the share of those who do not recognize any of the mentioned brands decreased from 23 percent (first half of 2023) to today’s 16 percent.
As the main reason for buying or considering buying Chinese cars, 42 percent of respondents cited value for money (up from 36 percent at the beginning of this year), and 28 percent of them highlighted the importance of attractive discounts. A large number of electric vehicle options from Chinese brands attracted 19 percent of drivers.
Carwow also highlights the reading statistics of their tests of new Chinese cars. Although the most-read test is the BMW iX3, the next seven are cars from China: Jaecoo 7, Chery Tiggo 8, BYD Seal, Jaecoo 8, Omoda 5, BYD Seal U, and Chery Tiggo 7. In other words, while two years ago 40 percent of the most-read tests were about Chinese cars, today that percentage is as high as 70 percent.
Let us remind you that in March of this year, the Jaecoo 7 caused a sensation when it sold 10,064 units, becoming the first Chinese car to top the best-selling list in Great Britain.
