Man Flees With Stolen Tundra During Test-Drive, Crashes Into Lagos Canal After Damaging Dozens Of Vehicles

A young man reportedly caused chaos on Lagos roads after fleeing with a brand-new Toyota Tundra pickup truck, said to be worth ₦130 million, from a car dealership in Victoria Garden City (VGC), where he had gone for a test drive.

According to reports, the suspect was handed the keys to the Toyota pickup truck for a test drive but allegedly sped off instead of returning to the dealership. What followed was a reckless escape that reportedly left dozens of vehicles damaged across parts of Lagos.

The chase eventually ended when the Toyota Tundra crashed into a canal. Photos and videos circulating on social media show the pickup truck partially submerged in the water, while a crowd gathered along the bank as the suspect was pulled from the vehicle.

The suspect was reportedly arrested shortly afterwards. However, authorities have yet to issue an official statement detailing the circumstances of the incident or the charges he may face.

Reports differ on the number of vehicles damaged, with estimates ranging from 39 to 42. The exact figure remains unconfirmed, although some accounts put the breakdown at 10 cars around VGC, 11 near Chevron, and 20 between the tollgate and Ajiran.

With dozens of vehicles reportedly damaged, questions have emerged on social media about who will bear the cost of repairs. The incident has also drawn attention to the risks associated with vehicle test drives and the precautions dealerships can take to protect their vehicles and other road users.
