Honda HR-V To Get A Huge Upgrade Soon For The 2027 Model Year

While the North American Honda HR-V isn’t due for a major redesign soon, its Japanese counterpart, the ZR-V, is reportedly getting significant updates for 2027 that could greatly enhance the model’s appeal.

Honda is reportedly updating the 2027 ZR-V, with a debut scheduled for January’s Tokyo Auto Salon. Reports indicate the lineup will expand with new “RS” and “TrailSport” trims, offering front-wheel and all-wheel-drive configurations to broaden the SUV’s appeal with sportier and more rugged options.

Furthermore, the updated model will feature the Honda S+ Shift technology, an innovation that simulates the tactile sensation and audible character of a stepped transmission in hybrid variants. Initially introduced in the new Prelude and subsequently integrated into the Civic, this feature is designed to enhance the driving experience by providing a more engaging acceleration profile.

It remains uncertain if these Japanese ZR-V upgrades will reach the North American HR-V. While both share the Civic platform, their distinct manufacturing origins and specs—specifically the lack of a hybrid option in the U.S.—complicate a direct transition. Adding RS or TrailSport trims and S+ Shift technology would boost the HR-V’s appeal, but American Honda has yet to confirm any local plans.

At this time, American Honda has not confirmed whether these ZR-V enhancements will be introduced to the North American market. While the Japanese model provides insight into potential future developments, U.S. consumers must await an official announcement regarding any corresponding updates to the HR-V.
