BMW Considers New Flagship SUV To Sit Above The X7, Specifically For US Market

The BMW Group is considering introducing a new flagship Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) positioned above the current top-end model, the BMW X7, as the German luxury automaker looks to expand its presence in the highly profitable American market.
The potential addition was disclosed at its Capital Market Day 2026, held on September 30, 2026, where the company outlined its future business strategy as it prepares to face increasingly challenging market conditions in the years ahead.
According to BMW, the proposed model would be specifically tailored to the highly successful Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) segment in the US, where large luxury SUVs remain an important part of the premium automotive market.
In its official statement, BMW said it was “considering introducing an additional offering above the current top-end model, the BMW X7, that would be closely tailored to the needs of the US market.”
The wording suggests a new model positioned above the X7 rather than a confirmed plan to make the existing SUV larger. However, the company has not confirmed the vehicle’s name, dimensions, powertrain or expected launch date.
The BMW X7 currently occupies the top position in the brand’s conventional SUV lineup, offering three-row seating, a luxurious interior and powerful engine options. A model positioned above it could potentially target customers seeking greater space and exclusivity.
“Under increasingly challenging conditions, we have defined initial measures to reposition ourselves and will implement them with strong momentum,” said Milan Nedeljković, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG.
BMW also linked the proposal to strong demand for its premium SUVs, noting that its Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, known as the “home of X,” is already operating at full capacity as demand for its Sports Activity Vehicles continues to grow.
The proposed flagship SUV is part of BMW’s wider plan to strengthen profitability and competitiveness. In addition to a model positioned above the BMW X7 for the US market, the company also announced plans to introduce a fully electric model in the entry-level segment, with a focus on Europe.
