FCT Police Arrest Motorist, Intercept Lexus LX570 SUV With Forged “Presidency” Number Plate

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a motorist and intercepted a Lexus LX570 luxury SUV allegedly fitted with a concealed, forged number plate bearing the inscription “PRESIDENCY” in Maitama, Abuja.

According to a statement issued by the Command on October 22, the incident occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on October 20, 2026, when police operatives intercepted the SUV in the upscale Maitama District of the nation’s capital.

The vehicle and its occupant were promptly taken into custody for investigation and possible prosecution. The interception followed the discovery that the SUV was using a concealed number plate rather than openly displaying its registration details.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the plate bore the inscription “PRESIDENCY” alongside registration number 10B218 FG. The suspect reportedly claimed to be the legitimate holder of the plate, prompting further checks by the police.

However, subsequent investigations allegedly uncovered forged registration documents. The suspect was also found to be impersonating a Permanent Secretary attached to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), according to the police.

The Lexus LX570 and its occupant remain in police custody as investigations continue. The Command said the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation. The suspect’s identity was not disclosed.

The arrest comes weeks after the FCT Police Command warned motorists against driving vehicles without valid number plates, using tinted windows without the required permits, or concealing, defacing or deliberately fading vehicle registration plates.

In an earlier statement issued on October 4, 2026, the Command said the warning became necessary because of the increasing use of such vehicles within the FCT, particularly SUVs, by individuals allegedly seeking to evade detection and identification.
