Fake, Unauthorised Number Plates : FRSC Seizes 350 Vehicles In One Month

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it has impounded 350 vehicles since it commenced a special operation to clamp down on illegal use of number plates and fake vehicle registration numbers.

The special operation, which began on Monday February 3rd 2025, targeted vehicles with fake registration numbers and illegal use of number plates by private, commercial, government and diplomatic vehicles.





“We impounded 350 vehicles in one month of the operation,” the Corps Public Education Officer, Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide, told newsmen in an interview on Monday in Abuja.

“We impounded vehicles using fake diplomatic numbers, unrecognised number plates,” he said, adding that “We don’t know where they were printed from and we don’t know who gave them the permission.”

FG Launches End-of-Life Vehicle Recycling Regulation To Boost Economy And Environmental Sustainability

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has officially launched the approved End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Recycling and Regulation to address the environmental hazards of vehicles that have reached the end of their life.

At the launch event on Wednesday 5th March 2025, the NADDC Director-General, Mr. Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, outlined how the regulation would create a sustainable economic and environmental advantage for Nigeria.

“We recognize the urgent need to manage end-of-life vehicles properly,” he said.

“This regulation not only protects our environment but also creates new business opportunities, stimulates economic growth, and generates thousands of jobs across the value chain,” he added.

500 CNG Buses, 50 EVs To Reduce Passenger Waiting Times, LAMATA Tells ‘Public Complaints Commission’

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has announced it is expecting the arrival of new 500 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and 50 electric vehicles by the last quarter of the year to boost the public transport fleet.





LAMATA Managing Director, Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, made this known when a delegation from the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) made a courtesy call to the agency on Wednesday March 5th 2025.

LAMATA boss also informed the PCC delegation that studies indicate Lagos requires around 15,000 buses to function optimally, while the current operational fleet is a little over 1,000.
