More Than 8,000 Electric Dodge Chargers EVs Recalled Because They Are Not “Loud” Enough
Electric cars are significantly quieter than those powered by internal combustion engines, and while they don’t need to be completely silent, federal law mandates that they must emit sound to ensure the safety of pedestrians and other drivers. Nevertheless, Dodge has created several electric Charger Daytona models that blatantly disregard this important requirement.
The recall refers to a total of 8,390 examples of the Charger Daytona (2024-2025), which were produced between April 30, 2024, and March 18, 2025, and whose amplifiers have “incomplete software loading, which may prevent the emission of external sound.”
In theory, this sound should be completely separate from the standard Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust system, which uses speakers built into the rear bumper to replicate the sound of the V8 engine. Even with that feature turned off, the Charger is still legally required to emit a certain sound at lower speeds.
Dodge began investigating the problem on April 17, meeting with engineers and the supplier and analysing warranty data, field data, and customer data. A decision has been made to recall the vehicles, and Dodge will begin notifying owners on July 10. Dealers will inspect the cars and upgrade the amplifier software if necessary.
