Audi Celebrates 25 Years Of The A2 With An A2 E-Tron Model
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the A2 model, Audi turned one example of this hatchback into an electric vehicle. It is the unique Audi A2 E-Tron concept, the latest creation that emerged from Audi’s trainee program.
Technical details of the electric A2 have not been announced, but the images show that this A2 has been subtly redesigned under the influence of Audi’s current electric vehicles. Among other things, this includes modified front lights, while the Audi logos are illuminated, as on the new Audi Q6 E-Tron.
Conventional door handles have also been removed, while cameras have replaced the standard rearview mirrors. Also, the original aluminium wheels have been modified and given a more contemporary closed design, in search of increased aerodynamic efficiency. The company does not disclose how closely related the A2 E-tron is, technically, to any of Audi’s production cars.
The A2 went on sale in November 1999 with a selection of small gasoline and diesel engines, but its most stand-out feature was its aluminium body—a novelty at the time. However, the futuristic panels weren’t enough to entice customers, and Audi struggled to sell the model.
