The Mitsubishi L200 Makes A Return To Europe After A 5-Year Hiatus
The Mitsubishi L200 returns to Europe and the UK this year to compete with the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. Rebadged from the 2023 Triton, it features a 2.4-liter biturbo diesel engine, marking its comeback after the 2021 discontinuation.
Though visually identical to the Triton, the European Mitsubishi L200 features a restricted, dual-cab-only lineup. Germany offers the Diamant and Diamant Top trims, while the UK is limited to the entry-level Titan and flagship Barbarian. Conversely, global markets enjoy a wider range of configurations, including Australia’s performance-focused Raider and Brazil’s specialized editions. The interior carries over from the 2023 Triton, retaining its 8-inch infotainment display, 360-degree camera, and ADAS suite.
The European-specification Mitsubishi L200 is exclusively equipped with a non-electrified 2.4-liter biturbo diesel engine, which generates 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 470 Nm (347 lb-ft) of torque. Depending on the selected trim, this powertrain is paired with either a six-speed manual transmission with the part-time Easy Select 4WD system or a six-speed automatic transmission with the permanent Super Select 4WD-II system, which includes a lockable rear differential.
Looking ahead, the diesel-powered pickup may eventually incorporate a hybrid powertrain, potentially shared with the mechanically similar Mitsubishi Pajero. This development is anticipated toward the end of the decade, likely coinciding with a comprehensive mid-lifecycle refresh.
The Mitsubishi L200 is scheduled to arrive at German dealerships in November, with pricing for the Diamant trim starting at €39,990 ($45,900), while the range-topping Diamant Top begins at €52,990 ($60,800). The midsize pickup is currently available in the UK market, where the entry-level L200 Titan is priced from £36,295 ($48,500), and the flagship L200 Barbarian starts at £39,995 ($53,500).
