Mitsubishi Pondering On Bringing Back The Lancer Evolution

The Mitsubishi Pajero is back, but what about other iconic names? According to Motor1, the question came up during a question-and-answer session with shareholders. Three sedans were mentioned in particular: Lancer Evolution, Diamante and Galant.
Fortunately, there are no plans to take a shortcut to revive the Lancer Evolution, like some rebranded sports sedans based on an existing product from another manufacturer (as is the case with many of Mitsubishi’s models based on Renault or Nissan vehicles).
At the same time, Mitsubishi admits that it is currently in no position to bring back one of its most legendary badges. Still, the company president hopes the day will come when the Evo badge will return.
Speaking during the 57th Annual Shareholders’ Meeting, Chairman Keisuke Kishiura touched on the return of the rally icon: “Models like the Lancer Evolution, Diamante and Galant are extremely important to Mitsubishi, and we consider them treasures. While we currently have no concrete plans to launch these models, our goal is to build a company capable of bringing these wonderful cars back to the market in the future so that we can meet your expectations. I will lead the way in this effort and would appreciate the continued support of our shareholders.”
For now, Mitsubishi isn’t committing to a new Evo, but the statement at least signals a clear desire to one day revive the sports sedan.
