4 Million Vehicles Are Being Recalled By The Volkswagen Group

Volkswagen Group is initiating a massive global recall of millions of vehicles across its brands due to a faulty steering system bolt.

The German carmaker is preparing a massive global recall of four million vehicles across VW, Audi, Skoda, and Seat brands due to a widespread steering defect. This initiative, potentially the company’s largest since the diesel emissions scandal, involves replacing a faulty bolt prone to corrosion. While specifics are pending, Germany’s KBA indicates the recall spans millions of units worldwide, following a smaller-scale launch of the same fix in the United States.

Although Volkswagen has yet to issue a comprehensive list of affected vehicles, the manufacturer has acknowledged that internal quality assessments have identified a steering defect across several models. Skoda has also confirmed its inclusion in this global recall. Given the extensive nature of this initiative, which impacts a wide range of vehicles manufactured over several years, implementation strategies will vary by region in accordance with local regulations and specific market requirements.

Volkswagen and Audi have launched a U.S. recall for 208,724 vehicles (2018-2019 Atlas, 2018 Tiguan, 2019-2021 Q3) due to a steering rack bolt prone to corrosion. While no North American incidents are reported, dealers will replace the component to prevent potential steering loss. Volkswagen estimates only 1% of recalled vehicles are affected.
