The Lagos State Government says that the 37-kilometre, Lagos Fourth Mainland Bridge (4MB) project will help create about 5000 jobs for young engineers and that properties along the project corridor are expected to appreciate geometrically.

Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, disclosed this during an interview on “Morning Delight”, a Lagos Television programme on Wednesday.

A contractor has already been selected for the construction of the Fourth Mainland Bridge, Omotosho said, adding that the project will help take huge traffic off the First, Second and Third Mainland bridges, thereby reducing travel time for motorists.

During the interview, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy also said he heard some uninformed people comparing the cost the Blue Rail Line with that of Djibouti, Ethiopia Rail Line.

According to Omotosho, the Blue Rail Line is the only rail line in Africa that was built across a water body, unlike the Djibouti Rail Line, “So, the cost, the equipment and expertise deployed must be different”, he stated.

Speaking on the LRMT Red Line from Oyingbo to Alagbado, Omotosho said that the infrastructure is expected to be ready for a test run in December, 2023.

“It is bigger than the Blue Line and capable of moving over one million people per day. The travel time from Oyingbo to Alagbado which takes an average of three to four hours today will be reduced to a maximum of 35 minutes”.

Recall that Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu last month signed partnership with Afreximbank and Access Bank for infrastructure investment of $1.352 billion in Lagos. The Investment will help fund the many projects in the state, including Fourth Mainland Bridge and the 2nd Phase of the LRMT Blue Line from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko.
