Range Extenders For Jeep And Ram Vehicles Have Been Delayed Till Next Year
Stellantis has delayed its Jeep Grand Wagoneer REV and Ram 1500 REV by 6-9 months to refine its 400-volt hybrid systems. Production is now scheduled for November 2026 and April 2027, respectively.
According to a recent memo circulated to suppliers, production for the Jeep Grand Wagoneer REV has been rescheduled for November 2026, representing a delay from the initial May 2026 target. Similarly, the launch of the Ram 1500 REV has been postponed by nine months, with production now slated for mid-April 2027.
Stellantis has delayed the Ram 1500 REV and Jeep Grand Wagoneer REV by 6-9 months to refine their hybrid systems. With production now set for late 2026 and early 2027, the company risks losing consumer interest as competition in the range-extended vehicle segment intensifies.
According to internal communications and reports from key supplier executives, Stellantis has opted to postpone the launch of these models to facilitate the seamless integration of its proprietary propulsion system, which utilizes a 400-volt battery, a Pentastar engine, and an onboard generator. This delay reflects a strategic initiative to refine the technology, thereby mitigating the risks of technical complications, potential product recalls, and subsequent liabilities.
Stellantis is delaying its Ram 1500 REV and Jeep Grand Wagoneer REV by 6–9 months to refine their range-extender propulsion systems. While these delays risk losing ground to competitors like Ford, prioritizing reliability and seamless integration for this new technology is a prudent strategic move.
The automaker must act quickly to stay competitive. As EREVs gain traction and rivals like Ford and Volkswagen accelerate their own development alongside impressive Chinese imports, Stellantis risks falling behind if it delays its launch much longer.
While speed to market is a notable advantage, prioritizing product reliability and technical excellence remains paramount. Stellantis has adopted a cautious approach by rescheduling its production timelines; however, whether this strategic delay will be perceived as a prudent measure or a missed opportunity to remain competitive against accelerating rivals remains to be seen. The success of this move will ultimately depend on whether the company can outperform competitors in the rapidly evolving range-extended vehicle segment.
