Mercedes-Benz is carrying out a significant restructuring of its model range. The German manufacturer plans to reduce the range, and this will affect electric vehicles the most.

At least three models have been discontinued for the 2027 model year: the EQE sedan in standard and AMG versions, the Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance model, and the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV. The company’s spokesperson confirmed this information to Car and Driver and explained that the goal is to bring electric models closer to those with a classic drive, and the year 2027 represents a key step in that strategy.

The Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan, like its sporty Mercedes-AMG version, is being phased out for the 2027 model year. That’s the end of its relatively short market life.

The EQE model was launched as an all-electric alternative to the E-Class and featured a recognizable aerodynamic design that set it apart from models with a classic drive. However, with the existing electric CLA and the arrival of the new electric C-Class, the EQE as a separate model no longer makes commercial sense.

The Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance has also been deleted from the list for 2027. The current S63 is powered by a combination of a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine and a plug-in hybrid system.

Production of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV also ends with the 2027 model year. It is the most expensive and most luxurious electric car in the Mercedes range, which combined the EQS SUV drivetrain with the distinctive Maybach design and premium materials.

Its demise doesn’t mean there won’t be a new electric Maybach in the future, but it likely won’t be a stand-alone EQ model anymore.

All these cuts are part of Mercedes’ strategy to reduce the number of electric models and better integrate battery power into the main range of vehicles. Therefore, it is possible that other models will soon be on the cancellation list.
