Mercedes-Benz Starts Production Of 657-km Range 2027 GLA Electric SUV

Six weeks after its unveiling to the public on July 29, 2026, Mercedes-Benz has started series production of the electric variant of the new third-generation 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLA SUV, which promises up to 657 kilometers (408 miles) of WLTP range on a single charge.

The new and first-ever electric GLA SUV is now rolling off the assembly line at the automaker’s Rastatt plant in Germany, where production is carried out on a flexible assembly line, allowing electric and combustion-powered vehicles to be built on the same production system.

At launch, the electric GLA lineup will comprise three models: the GLA 200 Electric, the GLA 250+ Electric, and the 349-hp GLA 350 4MATIC Electric—the range-topping, performance-focused version of the initial lineup that sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.

Mercedes-Benz opened orders the day after the unveiling, with the entry-level GLA 200 Electric starting at €48,599.60, while the GLA 250+ Electric is priced at €54,978. The GLA 350 4MATIC Electric costs €58,107.70—with all prices including VAT.

The electric GLA features an 800-volt electrical architecture and supports DC charging at up to 320 kW. Under suitable charging conditions, the electric SUV, featuring a massive 85kWh NMC battery pack, can add up to 270 km (168 miles) of WLTP range in just 10 minutes.

For now, the new GLA will be available exclusively as an electric vehicle. Mercedes-Benz plans to introduce hybrid versions from early 2027, powered by a newly developed electrified 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine paired with an integrated 22-kW electric motor and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

“With the GLA, another model from a completely new generation of vehicles is rolling off the assembly line in Rastatt. The fact that the transformation of our plant and the start of production have gone so smoothly is thanks to our team,” said Marco Zwick, Head of Production at the Mercedes-Benz Rastatt Plant.

Inside, all variants feature a completely redesigned cabin with a panoramic sunroof and a large MBUX Superscreen. This advanced setup integrates a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a 14-inch central display, and a 14-inch screen for the front passenger.

Additionally, the electric GLA will be offered in AMG and AMG Line Plus trims with sportier styling elements. The AMG Line Plus adds a high-gloss black spoiler lip, exclusive 20-inch light-alloy wheels, and a high-gloss black vehicle key.
