Mercedes And Rheinmetall Unveil G-Class-Based Timber Wolf And Silver Wolf For British Army

Team Wolf, a defence partnership between Rheinmetall UK and Mercedes-Benz UK, has unveiled the Timber Wolf and Silver Wolf, two all-new tactical vehicles designed as enduring successors to the UK military’s long-serving fleet of 5,000 Land Rover Defenders after around 70 years of military use.
Unveiled on September 17, 2026, at the DVD 2026 defence event in Millbrook, UK, the Timber Wolf and Silver Wolf join the previously introduced Shadow Wolf and Caracal as part of the partnership’s growing “Wolf Pack” family for the British Army.

Both vehicles are based on the Mercedes-Benz G-Class Common Base Platform, specifically the proven W464 platform. While Mercedes-Benz contributes the vehicle foundation, Rheinmetall provides military integration and mission-system expertise.
“For more than 45 years, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has proven its strength in the toughest conditions. With Team Wolf, we are contributing exactly that,” said Olivier Reppert, CEO & Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Cars UK.

Team Wolf says the common-platform approach allows one vehicle family to support multiple roles, including mobility, command, ambulance, troop transport, sustainment and specialist missions.
Team Wolf is targeting up to 50% UK content. In addition to the initial vehicle delivery, the partnership says its support model is designed to keep the fleet operational for more than 20 years, with a route for future upgrades and capability development.

With the Timber Wolf and Silver Wolf now joining the Shadow Wolf and Caracal, Team Wolf is presenting a broader family of Mercedes-Benz G-Class-based tactical vehicles aimed at giving the British Army multiple mission capabilities from a common vehicle foundation.
“The unveiling of Timber Wolf and Silver Wolf is an exciting next step for Team Wolf and demonstrates that the Wolf Pack is about much more than individual vehicles. We are bringing forward a complete family of tactical mobility solutions…,” said Rebecca Richards, Managing Director of Rheinmetall UK.
