GMC Hummer Electric SUV Produces More Emissions Than A Petrol-powered Chevrolet Malibu - autojosh

GMC Hummer Electric SUV produces more emissions than a petrol-powered Chevrolet Malibu, according study by ACEEE.

Study says gasoline-powered Chevy Malibu causes over 320 grams per mile, while the new Hummer EV causes 341 grams.

The environmental impact of EVs also comes from the process of manufacturing there heavy battery-packs.

But the electric Hummer is much more eco-friendly than the original Hummer H1, which emits 889 grams of CO2 per mile.





A study published by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), says that battery-powered GMC Hummer electric SUV produces more emissions than a Chevrolet Malibu ICE sedan.

While a gasoline-powered Chevy Malibu causes over 320 grams per mile, the new Hummer EV causes 341 grams, demonstrating that behemoth EVs can still be worse for the environment than smaller, conventional vehicles.

But the environmental impact of EVs isn’t just about the electricity generated to power each mile as the manufacturing process also causes the release of greenhouse gases at several stages.

The study notes that EVs like electric Hummer are still responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than small gas-powered sedans due to their heavy battery packs that uses minerals that need to be mined, processed, and turned into batteries.





ACEEE urge Environmental Protection Agency to explore ways to factor EV efficiency into fuel-efficiency and greenhouse gas standards, starting with accounting for EVs’ upstream emissions.

While the Hummer EV isn’t as environmentally friendly as a petrol-powered sedan, the electric Hummer is much more eco-friendly than the original GAZ guzzling Hummer H1, which emits 889 grams of CO2 per mile.
