Inside The Electric Trains That Will Serve The Lagos Blue Line Rail Mass Transit

Each of the EMU train is composed of two motor trains, two trailer cars and four driving-car trains. 

Inside, each car is equipped with rows of 4 to 5-seaters between each doorway and pivoted grab handles for standing passengers.

The high-speed Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) that will serve the Lagos Blue Line Rail Mass Transit project has successfully rolled off the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) production line in Qingdao in China.

Sharing the news on Twitter, Jubril Gawat, a media aide of the Lagos State Governor, said :

“?????Inside the Light Rail EMU for #Nigeria’s First Intracity Rail, which is rolled off at @CRRC_global’s production line in China.

The trains will serve the #Lagos Blue Line Rail Mass Transit project, , which is constructed @CCECC8.”

Painted in the same blue livery as the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), each of the EMU train is composed of two motor trains, two trailer cars and four driving-car trains, and it has a maximum speed of 100km/h. Inside, each car is equipped with rows of 4 to 5-seaters between each doorway and pivoted grab handles for standing passengers.

The 27.5km, 13-station Lagos Blue Rail Line is nearing completion, and it will traverses between Mile 2 in the east and Marina in the west. It will be operated on Electric Motor Unit (EMUs) , which is a multiple-unit train consisting of self-propelled carriages using electricity as the motive power.

While the trains for 27.5-kilometre Lagos Blue Rail Line will be powered by electricity, the 37-kilometre Red Line, from Agbado to Ebute Metta, will operate on Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

Sanwo-Olu recently disclosed that the Lagos State Government will acquire additional two sets of four train coaches in September. He further gave the reassurance that Lagosians would ride a train on the rail by the first quarter of 2023.
