2025 VW ID.7 Sedan Officially Breaks Cover At The Shanghai Auto Show

Volkswagen is taking a step forward with its electric motors and battery packs in the 2025 ID.7 sedan. Compared with the ID.4 crossover, it boasts a more powerful electric motor and an option for a larger battery pack that should enable more range.
The “fastback saloon” is actually a five-door hatchback and it follows in the footsteps of the aforementioned concepts. As a result, the ID.7 has an aerodynamically optimized front end with slender LED headlights that are connected by a thin illuminated strip. It flows into daytime running lights, which double as turn signals.
Available in two trims: Pro and Pro S. Both have an electric motor making 282 horsepower. The Pro comes with a battery that has an 82.0-kilowatt-hour gross rating (77.0-kWh net) that provides an estimated WLTP-cycle range of 382 miles. The system supports 170-kW DC charging. The Pro S gets a pack with a 91.0-kWh gross capacity (86.0-kWh net) that offers an estimated 435 miles of driving distance. The DC charging capacity is 200 kW.
VW describes the ID.7 as the flagship of its ID family of EVs, and in keeping with this positioning the automaker has packed the car with top-shelf cabin technology. Standard features will include a panoramic sunroof with smart glass that can dim automatically, an augmented reality head-up display, a 15.0-inch touchscreen for infotainment, and a climate-control system that can direct air at an occupant or spatially to cover the cabin. VW has also included touch sliders for many of the controls, which can be a pain to use when driving, though the automaker has also included voice activation that can serve as an alternative to the touch sliders in many cases.
The ID.7 will be offered globally as Chinese and European deliveries are slated to begin this fall. Following the overseas launch, the model will come to North America in 2024.
