Porsche Acknowledges That The Current Hybrid 911 Does Not Have A Manual, But That Could Change

The hybrid-powered Porsche 911 GTS is currently PDK-only. While this delivers impressive performance, the lack of a manual gearbox limits its appeal to enthusiasts, though Porsche hints at potential future solutions.

Porsche North America CEO Timo Resch confirmed the hybrid 911 GTS is currently incompatible with manual transmissions due to its T-hybrid system. While no manual option exists for the current setup, Resch noted that Porsche’s engineering team continues to explore future solutions and remains committed to offering manual gearboxes as long as demand and regulations allow.

Although the current T-hybrid configuration is incompatible with a manual transmission, this may not be a permanent limitation. Resch suggested that while a solution could be developed in the future, it would likely involve a different technical approach from that of the current model.

The Manual Is Here To Stay

While Resch did not provide specific technical details on integrating a manual transmission into a hybrid 911, such a configuration would likely require removing the current PDK-integrated motor while potentially retaining the electrically assisted turbocharger.

Despite this current limitation, Porsche maintains a firm commitment to manual gearboxes. Resch stated, “You can be assured that we will try to offer manual transmissions as long as we are legally allowed to and as long as there’s customer demand; we see customer demand for the optional manual transmission lasting well into the next decade.”
