According To Lamborghini, A Supercar Needs More Than Just Speed
Lamborghini argues that as EVs make rapid acceleration common, supercars must prioritize dynamic handling and emotion over raw speed.
As high-performance family sedans and SUVs continue to achieve rapid 0-60 mph acceleration times, the traditional emphasis on sheer speed is no longer sufficient to define a modern supercar. In an interview with CarExpert in Milan, Paolo Racchetti, the Temerario model line director, noted that while outright speed remains a relevant metric, it is no longer the definitive characteristic of a super-sports car.
Lamborghini’s Paolo Racchetti emphasizes that while speed is important, modern supercars must prioritize dynamic handling and emotion over raw acceleration to distinguish themselves from high-performance electric vehicles.
The Italian brand is prioritizing driving emotion and dynamic handling over raw acceleration in its future lineup. While the brand continues to develop EVs, it has indefinitely postponed its first fully electric model, opting instead for plug-in hybrid powertrains in vehicles like the Revuelto, Temerario, and the upcoming 2+2 GT based on the Lanzador concept to ensure its supercars maintain a distinct, soulful character.
Lamborghini isn’t bringing back manual transmissions, as the brand continues to prioritize innovation and forward-looking vehicle architecture. While rapid acceleration is becoming common in the EV era, the automaker remains committed to ensuring its future supercars provide a unique, visceral driving experience that sets them apart.
