Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Lagos State Command, identify officers in Mufti asking for tinted glass from a motorist.

Says the AIG Zone 2 Lagos is investigating the matter, adding that the PPRO Zone 2, Lagos will speak to it as soon as possible.

Permit for tinted glasses has been suspended since 2021, so officers of patrol duty are not expected to demand for it from motorists.

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Lagos State Police Command, says it has identified the police officers in mufti seen in viral video requesting a tinted glass permit from a motorist, adding that investigation ongoing.

In the video, plain cloth individuals, who identified themselves as policemen from state CID Zone 2 V.I, can be heard asking a motorist for his car’s tinted permit.

“It’s a factory tinted glass and I can’t remember the last time police asked me for a tinted permit because that was canceled two years ago,” the driver replied, before asking them for their Identity Cards.

Reacting to the video on Sunday, Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said :

“These policemen have been traced to Zone 2 and identified. The AIG Zone 2 Lagos is investigating. While the PPRO Zone 2, Lagos will speak to it as soon as possible.

As noted by the car driver, the permit for tinted glasses has been suspended since June 2021, so police officers of patrol duty are not expected to demand for it from motorists.

“No police man should demand your customs papers. No. Except they are on joint operation, but not just on mere routine checks. And for now, we have suspended issuance of tinted glass permit, so we dont expect our men to disturb Nigerians on this,” Adejobi said via his Twitter handle back in 2022.

“We are to stop any vehicle with tints, search d vehicles, and its occupants, but not to delay him for not having tinted glass permits. Report them if u are so delayed so that we ask them questions,” he added.
