The Nigerian playwright, novelist, poet, essayist and Nobel Laureate turns 90 years on July 13, 2024 (today).

The particular Peugeot 504 model is one several iconic cars that ruled the Nigerian roads between the 1970s and late 80s.

President Bola Tinubu has renamed the National Theatre in Iganmu, lagos as “The Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts” to celebrate Professor Wole Soyinka, who turned on 90 years on July 13th, 2024 (today).

In the statement titled with “Professor Wole Soyinka at 90 : Tribute to a national treasure and global icon,” Tinubu wished Professor Soyinka many more years in good health and creative fulfilment as a global force for change.

Part of the statement reads :

“I am, accordingly, delighted to have the honour to announce the decision of the Federal Government to rename the National Theatre in Iganmu, Surulere, as The Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts,” the President states.

Peugeot 504

The particular Peugeot 504 model design is one several iconic cars that ruled the Nigerian roads between the 1970s and late 80s, a list that includes the Peugeot 505, Toyota Corolla, Volkswagen Beetle and 504 Station Wagon.

Due to its robust body structure, long suspension travel, high ground clearance and large wheels, the 504 was very popular in rough-terrain countries, including Nigeria, Brazil, Argentina, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Benin and Kenya.

Alongside in its home country of France (Peugeot SA) and Argentina, the Peugeot 504 was also manufactured in Kenya until 2004, and in Nigeria until 2006, using the Peugeot knock down kits.
