The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado that overturned on Onikan Bridge in Lagos on Wednesday September 2nd has been successfully evacuated and traffic returned to normalcy, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) says in a traffic update.

In an earlier report, LASTMA confirmed that the vehicle overturned while descending Onikan Bridge, although the agency did not reveal whether there were any casualties. It said its officials responded to the incident and coordinated the evacuation of the SUV from the roadway.

“Video of an upturned Jeep descending Onikan bridge. Cones have been placed behind the vehicle by our officials as a precautionary measure, and a tow truck is expected to arrive soon for its removal. Traffic is currently less affected,” LASTMA said.

According to LASTMA, the incident caused light traffic as the overturned vehicle occupied part of the carriageway, forcing motorists to navigate the affected section carefully.

In addition to preventing a secondary accident, the quick removal of the overturned vehicle also helped reduce unnecessary traffic build-up in the area. LASTMA continues to advise road users to remain alert and obey traffic regulations to ensure safer and smoother movement across Lagos.

In late July, LASTMA announced that its newly launched 3367 toll-free call centre handled 2,843 public engagements during its first month under the Agency’s Digital Centre.

A detailed analysis of the engagements spanning 28 June to 29 July 2026 revealed 1,047 enquiry calls, 709 commendation calls, and 468 successfully resolved cases. Additionally, the period recorded 400 accident and vehicular breakdown reports, 163 formal complaints, 11 information requests, and 45 unsuccessful calls.
