As Rain-Fall Intensifies, FRSC Asks Motorists To Use Greater Caution

The FRSC’s Enugu State sector warned motorists to be more cautious on the roads as the rains began to fall.
Mr Joseph Toby, the state’s Sector Commander, stated in Enugu that motorists would need to exercise extreme caution during the rains because the roads would be slick and visibility would be poor.
To avoid road crashes, he advised motorists to use “common sense” speed, according to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN).
Toby defined “common sense” speed as the speed selected by a driver on a slick road while taking into account poor visibility and the vehicle’s roadworthiness.
Poor visibility, poor road conditions, and vehicles that are not in perfect condition, according to him.

“Rainy season is the difficult season to ply the roads. Drivers should drive defensively and possibly travel below recommended speed limits.
“Drivers should not use roads with which they are unfamiliar during torrential rains or when the road is flooded,’’ he said.
Toby recommended drivers to keep their vehicles well-maintained and equipped with decent tyres that could provide a secure grip on the road.
He also stressed the importance of having sufficient lighting and a reliable braking system.
He emphasized the need of drivers and commuters planning their trips ahead of time.
Travelers and motorists should plan ahead of time, start their excursions early in the day, and avoid traveling at night, according to the commander.
