Eid-el-Kabir 2026: FRSC records 25.65 percent drop in road crashes, 22 percent reduction in people involved.

Says its 2026 Eid-el-Kabir Special Patrol Operations helped achieved a decline in road traffic crashes across nationwide.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says that its 2026 Eid-el-Kabir Special Patrol Operations (from May 25th through May 31st 2026) helped delivered significant decline in road traffic crashes across critical road safety indices nationwide.

According to FRSC’s operational report on June 6th, road traffic crashes declined dramatically by 25.65 percent, dropping from 191 crashes recorded during the same period in 2025, to 142 in 2026.

The report also showed that 1,064 persons were involved in crashes (a decline of 22 percent vs 1,364 persons in 2025), while the number of injured persons reduced from 576 in 2025 to 430 (a decline of 25.35).

According to the Corps, the outstanding performance is a direct reflection of the strategic deployment of personnel and operational assets across critical corridors nationwide.

“Through round the clock patrols, intelligence driven surveillance, motorised chain patrol operations, prompt rescue interventions, traffic calming measures, stakeholder collaborations, and sustained public education campaigns, the Corps succeeded in creating safer travel conditions for millions of Nigerians who journeyed across the country before, during and after Sallah celebrations.”

Speaking on the outcome, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the dedication, professionalism, and resilience displayed by personnel, Special Marshals, and collaborating agencies throughout the operation.

He noted that the results demonstrate that sustained enforcement, strategic planning, and collective commitment to road safety can substantially reduce the burden of crashes on Nigerian roads.

Corps Marshal further expressed appreciation to motorists and other road users who adhered to traffic regulations and embraced the Corps’ safety advisories throughout the festive season.

While celebrating the significant reductions achieved, the Corps Marshal called on all road users to sustain the culture of safety beyond festive periods, stressing that road safety remains a shared responsibility requiring the cooperation of every Nigerian.
