First Two Rivian R1S Electric SUVs Delivered To The Company’s CEO And CFO

The first two production Rivian R1S all-electric SUVs have been delivered to its CEO And CFO.

But private customers who ordered the SUV will likely wait till between July and September 2022.

Rivian R1S will rival upcoming electric SUVs like the GMC Hummer and Bollinger Hummer-style Electric B1.

The first two production Rivian R1S electric SUVs has rolled off the assembly line in Normal, Illinois, and delivered not to customers, but handed over to chief executive R.J. Scaringe and chief financial officer Claire Rauh McDonough.

In a tweet announcing the delivery of the R1S Sport Utility Vehicle to Scaringe and McDonough, the Michigan-based all-electric carmaker said :

“We made our first R1S deliveries last week from our factory in Normal, IL to RJ and our CFO Claire. We’re working towards ramping production over the next few months on our way to full volume production. Thanks to our team for all the hard work to make it happen!”

But private customers will likely wait till between July and September 2022 after the startup EV company confirmed in late November that those who ordered the R1T pickup truck will take delivery sometime between March and June of 2022.

The R1S all-electric SUV, along with the related R1T Truck, were first presented at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, with deliveries originally due to start in late 2020. But the Covid-19 pandemic, which grounded nearly all activities across the world, caused delays.

Rivian says that the electric R1S comes standard with battery pack that offers 316 miles (508 km) of range. It is offered with the Explore Package for $70,000 and the Adventure Package for $75,500.

Being an electric car with no engine at the front, means the bonnet, the racks on top and the back of the pickup (that has a hidden lockable storage tyre compartment ) are also storage facilities.

Inside includes eight airbags, maps pre-programed into its navigation for off-roading, 10 USB charging ports, multi-media touchscreens, High-speed Ethernet for security and over-the-air software updates.

The SUV is also decked with cameras, lidar, radar, ultrasonic and GPS, making it capable of Level 3 autonomous-driving. This will allow it to steer, accelerate and brake without the driver touching the steering or brake .

The Rivian R1S will rival numerous upcoming electric SUVs, including the GMC Hummer and Bollinger Hummer-style Electric B1.
