Tesla FSD Can Now Take Control Even When You’re Operating A Vehicle Manually

Tesla has unveiled a significant update to its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, version 14.3.9, which enables the vehicle to assume active control even while a driver is operating the car. According to an announcement from Tesla AI, the system is designed to intervene automatically when an imminent collision is detected and the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system is deemed insufficient to prevent an accident.

If the FSD system calculates that AEB alone is inadequate, it will actively maneuver the vehicle to mitigate danger. Furthermore, the system may engage if it detects significant driver distraction. This update represents an advancement beyond standard AEB, as it utilizes a combination of steering, braking, and acceleration inputs to execute evasive actions and minimize the risk of impact.

Tesla describes this update as a final safety measure. If triggered, it notifies the driver and returns control once the hazard is cleared. While potentially intrusive, it provides a vital safety layer for situations where the driver cannot react in time.
