NNPC Restarts Port Harcourt Refinery, Trucks Begins Loading Of Petrol And Diesel

NNPC commences crude oil processing at the 60,000 barrels-per-day old Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC).

Trucks begins loading of petroleum products including Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and Automotive Gas Oil (diesel).

Restart of PHRC comes two months after Dangote Refinery Limited (DRL) commenced fuel loading on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

DRL had earlier this week slashed the price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) for marketers by ₦‎20 from ₦‎990 per litre to ₦‎970/litre.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. on Tuesday November 26th commenced crude oil processing at the 60,000 barrels-per-day Old Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) as well as the delivery of petroleum products into the market.

The successful revitalization of the PHRC was marked by the truck loading of petroleum products including Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) or petrol, Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) or diesel and Household Kerosene (HHK) or Kerosene.

Speaking during a brief ceremony to mark the commencement of products loading at the PHRC, the Group CEO, Mr. Mele Kyari thanked President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support and understanding towards the rehabilitation project.

The GCEO described the commencement of the loadout activities as a monumental achievement for Nigeria which signifies a new era of energy independence and economic growth for the country.

The NNPC said that the PHRC rehabilitation project is an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation & Commissioning (EPCIC) project that is aimed at restoring the refinery to full functionality and renewal. It has achieved over 16 million manhours with zero Loss Time Injury (LTI).

It comes two months after Dangote Refinery Limited (DRL) in Ibeju-Lekki commenced fuel loading on Sunday, September 15, 2024 and just few days after DRL slashed the price of the Premium Motor Spirit (popularly known as petrol) for marketers by ₦‎20 from ₦‎990 per litre to ₦‎970/litre.
