Tesla Model Y Was The Best-selling Car Model In 2023, Here Are The Top 10, Including 5 Toyota Models

Like in 2022, two all-electric Tesla models, Model Y and Model 3 made it to the world top 10 best-selling vehicles in 2023.
SUVs not only post a new sales record of 36.72 million units last year but also recorded their highest ever market share.
The Tesla Model Y has made history after emerging the world’s best-selling car models in 2023 – with the midsize SUV securing top position in the JATO Dynamics ranking as the first ever pure electric vehicle to lead the global market.
Sales of Elon Musk’s Tesla Model Y totaled 1.22 million units globally, up by 64% from 2022 and 480,000 more units than 2021— a result achieved by no other manufacturer before, according to JATO Dynamics.
The Model Y managed to outsell traditional global top-sellers like Toyota RAV4 (+5%) and Honda CR-V (+18%), who were the second and third best-selling vehicles in 2023 with 1,075,000 and 846,000 units delivered worldwide respectively.
Toyota Corolla was the fourth best-seller with 803,000 (-19%) units sold while Toyota Corolla Cross SUV (+35%) and Toyota Camry were fifth and sixth with 715,000 and 650,000 (-2%) units sold worldwide in 2023 respectively.
Ford’s line-up of F-Series pickups claimed seventh spot with 623,000 (+18%) examples reported as sold while its Toyota rival, the Hilux claimed the eighth position with total reported sales of 605,000 (-4%).
The Nissan Sentra sedan (also known as Sylphy in some markets) emerged ninth with 534,000 (-1%) examples while Tesla Model 3 maintained the tenth position with total reported sales of 508,000 (+5%).
Datas from JATO Dynamics shows that not only did SUVs post a new sales record of 36.72 million units last year but also recorded their highest ever market share.
“Between 2022 and 2023, fast-selling SUV volumes rose by 16%, accounting for closer to 47% of the total global passenger car sales last year,” JATO Dynamics said in a statement.
