Toyota GR Corolla Hot Hatch Set To Make Its Debut On March 31.
The new GR Corolla will be unveiled on Thursday, March 31st, according to Toyota.
A fender vent, a GR emblem, and a “GR-Four” insignia hint it will have all-wheel drive, according to teaser photographs.
The wait for Toyota’s entry into the hot-hatchback market is nearly over, as the firm has revealed that the new GR Corolla will make its official debut on March 31. The new performance model’s GR emblem, which stands for Gazoo Racing, its fender vent, and a “GR-Four” badge, which signals it will share its all-wheel-drive system with the rally-inspired GR Yaris, are all shown in teaser photographs.
The Corolla is also likely to use the 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-three engine from the GR Yaris, which makes 257 horsepower. If the 275-horsepower Hyundai Veloster N, 241-horsepower Volkswagen Golf GTI, and 271-horsepower Subaru WRX remain unchanged for the US-spec car, the Corolla will be in a race with the 275-horsepower Hyundai Veloster N, 241-horsepower Volkswagen Golf GTI, and 271-horsepower Subaru WRX. We anticipate a six-speed manual transmission as standard, with a dual-clutch automatic transmission as an option.
The GR model is expected to be based on the hatchback bodystyle of the Corolla, but with additional vents, scoops, and wider wheels and tires to make it look leaner and meaner than the standard model.
This Thursday, March 31, at 9:30 p.m. Eastern time, Toyota will live-stream the car’s debut on Vimeo. Check back here for more information on the GR Corolla, which is expected to hit the market later this year in the United States.
