When Does A Car’s Air Conditioning Use The Most Fuel?
Measurements of air conditioning in cars and their impact on fuel consumption were also conducted by the German Automobile Club (ADAC).
Thanks to modern air conditioning compressors, the impact on fuel consumption and additional costs is slowly decreasing. The test showed an average additional consumption of 10 to 15 percent.
The area you drive in also has a big impact on fuel consumption. In the city, consumption increases by about 20 percent, on open roads (average speed around 100 km/h), consumption increases by about six percent, and when the car is idling, consumption increases by a whopping 70 percent.
For lower fuel consumption, the system must regulate the interior temperature as independently as possible, i.e., in auto mode, if you have automatic air conditioning.
This way of working is much better than determining the air conditioner’s blowing speed yourself.
