Nissan finally lifts the lid off the latest 2022 Frontier pickup and it looks rugged, powerful and capable. Although it’s 5 inches longer than the outgoing model, Nissan says it doesn’t want its new 2022 Frontier to grow too much. The company was focused on finding a just-right size for the mid-size pickup. Even though the chassis has been thoroughly re-engineered for 2022 and the overall length increased, the wheelbase is the same as the outgoing model.

The looks of the 2022 Frontier was inspired by the Nissan Hardbody truck from the ’80s and ’90s. In front, there is a large grille and interlocking headlights. There are sizable vertical fenders promote the impression of strength and durability. The entire looks of the 2022 Frontier are very modern and from all indications will give rivals something to think about. There are some nice colours on offer, from the Tactical Green Metallic to Boulder Grey Pearl. If you opt for the capable Frontier PRO-4X, you get features like LED fog lights and grille accents in Lava Red.

Moving inside, there are more comprehensive changes over the previous model to take in. An expansive nine-inch touchscreen interface can be fitted which is optional. All models boast Apple CarPlay and Android Auto linked to an eight-inch touchscreen. A wireless charger, Wi-Fi hotspot, and surround-view monitor will be optional. In addition, there is a handy 4.0 litres of storage space in the centre console, while Nissan’s Zero Gravity seats improve comfort and reduce fatigue when covering longer distances. The automaker also retuned the steering rack to provide better on-centre feel.

Under the hood, the 2022 Frontier is powered by the same 3.8-litre V6 engine that was introduced in 2020. It produces 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque and is also paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. If equipped with four-wheel drive, the 2022 Frontier has a shift-on-the-fly system featuring 2WD/4HI/4LO modes. Furthermore, the 2022 Nissan Frontier is set to go on sale in summer 2021
